Justin Stuart Art

Justin will be located in Venue 16 - Village Hall Marquee

I work with copper, inspired by its malleability and the colours that are within the metal. My goal is to create art and beautiful functional pieces that are a celebration of water and the natural world.

Justin's work starts with copper hot water cylinders salvaged from local scrap yards. Every cylinder has a different weight, patina and style.

The thickness of the copper dictates the final form. The thin copper of modern cylinders is easier to sculpt while the thicker copper of older cylinders lends itself to the creation of bowls, mirror frames and other pieces.

Some patinas are naturally present in the copper, other patinas are created in an alchemical process. They all add character to the final artwork.

Colours and hues found in the patina, ranging from golds, reds and pinks to blues, greens and turquoise are brought out from the heart of the metal to it's visible surface.

High heat softens the copper just enough for it to be workable with hammers.

The final process is the sealing of the work with wax and lacquer, creating a unique and durable artwork for the home.
