Amanda Withall Linocut Printmaker

Amanda will be located in Venue 15 - Village Hall

Amanda is a self-taught linocut printmaker whose work reflects her background in Fine Art and Botanical drawing. Both these elements are given consideration through her detailed linocuts.

I have always been drawn to the magical simplicity of the printed image - the importance of the spaces left behind reveal the identity of the subject.

Having completed my Fine Art Diploma after my first son was born, raising our family and running a business meant that my artistic endeavours were jostled between their priorities.

I was inspired to work for a period as an art therapist in a hospital for those suffering with their mental health - where I developed a love for experimental practice and teaching.

My love for printing was re-ignited through a course at the Edinburgh Printmakers, and I subsequently acquired a second hand printing press together with all the fearless aspirations necessary to master the process.

During the next few years I became focussed on studying the various skills that are necessary to create successful designs - both mono and reduction print images.

I have exhibited at the Ford & Etal Christmas show for two years running, and it has been hugely rewarding to discover so many others who take pleasure from my linocut print work. I have sold my work both privately and by commission and I now share my excitement for this deceptively simple art form by running workshops from my home studio in the village of Kirk Yetholm.
