Verity James

Moors, chalk paths and hills are where I love to walk. Words like 'footpath', 'OS map' and 'flask' get me excited. Walking is something I do for pure enjoyment. Painting helps me capture what it's like to be out in the countryside.

Long shadows on hillsides, sudden bursts of sunlight, tree lines against the sky, and the maze of hedges across fields - these are what draw me in. Walking and train rides show me different views and how much sky versus land I can see. Sketching and taking photos while I'm out gives me material for paintings back in my studio.
