Gillian Chestnutt

Taking inspiration from the wildlife surrounding her in the Scottish Borders, Gillian paints striking images of birds and animals. Using bold colours and a strong sense of lighting she enjoys making her subjects centre stage. Gillian has become well known in particular for her pheasant paintings which never stick around for long!

I grew up in the village of St Boswells and have spent my whole life in and around the Scottish Borders.  Now living in Peebles I love nothing more than scouring my beautiful surroundings to capture photographs of the incredible wealth of wildlife and farming life I’m so lucky to live next to.  These photographs inspire my paintings.  

Art has always been a love of mine and it’s been the most exciting adventure to turn my passion into my job over the past 3 years.  As a self taught artist my work accidentally snowballed from selling a single painting of a pheasant to now exhibiting all across Scotland.
