Helen Leighton-Rose (Helen Cowans) uses a variety of media to produce work inspired by the natural world and the local landscape. She lives on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, influenced by the evocative windswept Cheviots Hills and the changing seasons. Historical research on women in the eighteenth century has informed recent new work. It's a new and exciting direction.

She has worked as a professional artist since 2001. Her practice centres primarily, but not exclusively, on the use of fabric and stitch, with a specialism in free-motion embroidery. She has published and exhibited nationally and internationally and is a public speaker and qualified adult tutor. She sells original art, prints and cards.
