My painting is inspired and informed by the natural world.

Observation, imagination and memory are equally important in how I view and experience the world.

The actual process of working is very exciting. I rarely start a painting with a completely fixed idea.

Walking through fields and hills is a source of many ideas. Different weather, states of mind, and company all add a sense of variety and drama to being outside.

Sometimes a place name or historical fact will also indirectly set the agenda and spark off a whole series of ideas.

On a purely visual level, colour, structure, form, texture, strength and fragility are all very important aspects of the landscape that fire up my imagination.
